It is always better to order a little short than too long."
No, I'm just saying that when you open that box be prepared for that to be a small cage, especially compared to the CB6000s. I don't know how big you are, it might be too big :)

I have had a lot of different devices and when the one that was that size showed up it was a bit of a shock to see how small it was. It ended up being worn more than any other device I have had other than the Steelheart I am in now (which also appeared *really* small when I first got it).
Atone is right to set your expectations.... When my JB showed up I thought " fuck me, my dick will never go in there". It took a while... Now at 2.5 inches it could do with being maybe a tiny bit smaller. But it was a shock! Bill at MM is very good and will fix things for you if needed. He is a truly good bloke. Use plenty of lube day one! I use gun oil and it all works great. I know you will be happy

Any changes were done via email with Mistress MM. I would sometimes receive a response within an hour of sending it. The wait for the device to arrive is a killer :D

It sounds as though everyone is getting the opportunity to relive their own process of moving from plastic to metal, and their own experiences in dealing with the manufacturers, as I recount my journey.

I have been reading some of the previous posts on oval vs. round base rings, and they are giving me second thoughts about my selection of an oval ring. On the MM measuring instruction sheet, it states "The oval shaped ring is wider horizontally and shorter vertically. This allows the bottom of the base ring to match up closer to the bottom of the cage and have a more uniformed gap. The uniformed gap adds comfort as well as security." However, the experiences of some members seem to dispute that statement. Did I make a mistake in ordering an oval base ring?

I might be one of them you read about that tried the oval and it didn't work. Don't read too much into problems that others have. We're not all built the same and this is why there are custom device makers. All I can say is try it and if it doesn't work then you can order a round ring. I think it's around $60 to $65.

FYI - If the oval doesn't work, something you might try. I did some experimenting with my old oval base ring. I put the ring in a vise with a piece of wood between the jaws and the ring. I placed the ring with the wide part between the jaws. I then started to tighten the vise. After a couple of tries I got the ring to be almost round. I now have two round base rings.
Current device - MM Custom
Previous devices - CB2000, 3000, 6000, 6000s, Curve

Hey Mike,

I ended up going with the oval ring for my JB knowing I could do as locked by LRC stated and put it in a vice to make it round. I believe the CB6ks ring is also oval so if that worked for you in the past then you should be all set.

Okay, I am looking at the base ring of the CB6000s, and it is more like a half-oval. While the top segments holding the posts are flattened, the bottom interchangeable segments are all round. At this point, I will refrain from contacting MM or changing my JailBird order, and will wait to try it on when it arrives.

He is very good and makes adjustments post the sale. I don't think you should be too worried.

Finally getting back to this thread. My thanks to all the people who posted here and provided much needed information. Special thanks to Atone for warning me about security problems with the anatomical base rings and to wishful4 for pointing out the importance of the distance between the bottom of the cage and the bottom of the base ring.

Once the anatomical base ring was off the table I had to really look at the Steelworxx Looker and decide if it was still worth the additional cost. The one major factor going for it is the integrated lock, which I really like. But then I saw this:

http://chastityforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=13546

Beautiful! Almost exactly what I want. The Jailbird looks much better to me with the extra rings around the cage, and it has the lock I wanted. Now if I could just get it a little shorter. I'm sold.

I've ordered the MM sizing rings along with a small sample of the steel they use so I can test how my nickel allergy is affected. High compliments to their customer service.

I mentioned in my journal thread that I had to switch to the 1 7/8 inch base ring in my CB6000S. I can't tolerate anything tighter. Now the problem is a testicle works its way out, quite painfully, once a day. I've noticed that the device, since it's made of plastic, has a certain amount of play. The gap between the bottom of the cage and the bottom of the 1 7/8 inch base ring can go from 5/16 inch to 1/2 inch! I still have to check what the gap range is when worn with the 1 3/4 inch base ring since my balls couldn't escape from that.

The lower position of the cage in the Mature Metal devices, which I initially viewed as a problem, now seem like a benefit. They should allow me to wear a larger base ring while still keeping the gap between the cage bottom and base ring bottom relatively small. I'm planning on ordering a larger diameter cage than the CB6000S, so that should narrow the gap too.

One concern I have is that if I ever have the device modified with Steelworxx' integrrated lock, the gap distances between the cage and ring bottoms will change and undermine its security. I've started wondering if there are alternatives I can suggest to Mature Metal that won't alter the carefully chosen parameters.

I have a few ideas, but they may require illustrations. More on that later.
