Lion...if someone cannot wait 6-8 weeks for a device then how will they be able to wait weeks or months for an orgasm? I hardly think the build time could be much of a deterrent
Grubber you are right the JB and other open cage devices allow the possibility of more stimulation but let's be honest here...the vast majority of devices are just a pair of bolt cutters or a pull out away from allowing stimulation. The strongest most secure chastity device is the one between your ears not your legs.
No JB war here. To each their own. I just am a believer in trying to get it right as quickly as possible.
I would suspect that if you polled the members of this forum (as good a sample as any for chastity device wearers) you would find that the majority of people who have been in chastity long term (a variable definition but let's call it 6 months plus) and can wear their devices long term without removal or issues are in steel devices. Not all but a majority IMO.
I cannot prove it and there is no way possible to get everyone to participate but it's my hunch. You may disagree which is fine.

Re: Conventional Wisdom of MC Device Acquisition
Why would you assume that someone who has never had a device on his penis have any idea of waiting weeks or months to come? It could be that he wants it to be part of a weekend play session. Not everyone walks into this with the idea of long term orgasm control.LockedandLoved wrote:Lion...if someone cannot wait 6-8 weeks for a device then how will they be able to wait weeks or months for an orgasm? I agree that the largest deterrent is the desire to be caged. Don't sell the stainless cages short. Mine doesn't let me do any self-stimulation. I've tried just to see. I think pull out is possible, but put-back-in seems more problematic. If i were to be sneaking a wank, the last thing I would want is for my keyholder to discover it. So maybe the security isn't all that bad after all. BTW the size bolt cutters needed to get through the JB stainless wire would require a helper to actually do the cutting. Gets more complicated, doesn't it?LockedandLoved wrote:Grubber you are right the JB and other open cage devices allow the possibility of more stimulation but let's be honest here...the vast majority of devices are just a pair of bolt cutters or a pull out away from allowing stimulation. Hard to tell, but probably true. I certainly wouldn't want to have to keep lubing up a few times a day for long term wear. As it is, I'm locked for 9 months and if my cage weren't very comfortable, I doubt I would have lasted more than a few weeks.LockedandLoved wrote:I would suspect that if you polled the members of this forum (as good a sample as any for chastity device wearers) you would find that the majority of people who have been in chastity long term (a variable definition but let's call it 6 months plus) and can wear their devices long term without removal or issues are in steel devices. Re: Conventional Wisdom of MC Device Acquisition
I didn't. If someone wants a chastity decide for a weekend play session as you call it then they do not need to be concerned with long term wearability or sizing much for that matter. However , I do not think that was who the OP was referring to when he asked his original question. If it's only for a kink session then by all means buy cheap and fit be damnedWhy would you assume that someone who has never had a device on his penis have any idea of waiting weeks or months to come? Not that difficult with devices without a piercing Lion. As for bolt cutters one need not get very large ones to cut the lock. Integrated is fine but it's not for everyone. Pull out is always possible in a ball trap device. By definition it has to come back out of the base ring because it went through in the first place. Only solution is a piercing (even MM will tell you this) or a full beltI agree that the largest deterrent is the desire to be caged. Don't sell the stainless cages short. I wear my without lube. Not everyone is the same though. I meant being locked for months not without release just constant locking and relocked.Hard to tell, but probably true. Tame Lion, there were a couple of points I was trying to portray in my post.
1 I agree that steel (preferably stainless) is the way to go lond distance and to avoid breaking issues but that does not mean that it has to be a custom device that a lot of people can't afford or can't justify spending. My wife would kill me if I spent that kind of money. There are plenty of good cheap steel devices out there that will be everything someone could want. If they have the ability to modify, they are way ahead of the game with the best device they could possibly have. Custom built and money doesn't always equate to better product. My modded device may not be the nicest looking but it is basically perfect for our use.
2 As far as an enclosed cage vs open like the JB, the type of security you are talking about wasn't what I was referring to and agree that the best security is between the ears. I was talking about stimulation while wearing it and the increased sensitivity when finally unlocked from an enclosed device. You could stimulate to orgasm with the JB, not so enclosed. I'm surely not going to use bolt cutters and as far as pullout is concerned, not so easy with my cheap modified stainless device with my custom designed anti-pullout. Could be done if I want to put myself through extremely excruciating pain on the way out and forget even having a chance at getting back in. Another thing my design allows for is using any size base ring that you could want and never the need to downsize because there is no slippage anywhere. In fact I wear an upsize ring. No more pain with nocturnal erections. None of the custom companies have a device with this design of anti-pullout available. Why should they? With the orders pouring in and 6-8 weeks lead time, there is no incentive to do so.
Damn near everyone in chastity uses some kind of lube at some point and a little lube here and there is no big deal. Especially with the comfort I have in my modified cheap stainless enclosed device. I have gone over 6 months (never unlocked) in mine and cleaning has never been an issue. The only reason I haven't gone longer is because my wife likes to enjoy me out of it every now and then. However, now that she has decided on permanent orgasm of any kind denial, I may be in for some very long term lockups. I feel very confident with my device.
Re: Conventional Wisdom of MC Device Acquisition
If I had just jumped to a more expensive custom made device without having had at least some experiences with the 3000 & 6000, I would have ordered one that would not have been the right size. The cheaper off the rack ones allowed me to experiment and learn, before I made the larger investment.eido wrote:Would it be better to just jump to the more expensive, but fully customizable devices than to progress through a series of increasingly expensive devices?
I do however wish I had invested the $ into the MM Jailbird a few devices faster than I had... but most custom devices were still pretty expensive, and MM was a pretty new company on the market.
The only regret I do have is that I waited as long as I did, though if I had bought it out of the gate, it would have been a mistake.

I've never used lube. Not once in the Jail Bird or in the Chinese cage. I've been caged since January with not a drop of lube.grubber wrote:Damn near everyone in chastity uses some kind of lube at some point and a little lube here and there is no big deal. Re: Conventional Wisdom of MC Device Acquisition
I agree that starting out with some cheaper devices to get a sense of what a good and bad fit is, makes sense. I've tried a lot of devices over the years. I bought at least six Chinese devices, plastic and steel before finding what I thought was the most comfortable for me. When I ordered the JB, the measurements were further refined. I am very happy with the results.Aarkey wrote:If I had just jumped to a more expensive custom made device without having had at least some experiences with the 3000 & 6000, I would have ordered one that would not have been the right size. I agreed about escape, what I said was it was way harder to get back in after you pull out. In my view, that's the real security. Escaping and jerking off might be fun, but knowing you will be caught is a very effective deterrent.LockedandLoved wrote:Not that difficult with devices without a piercing Lion. Re: Conventional Wisdom of MC Device Acquisition
I started out with steel, and I guess I got lucky...I'm still wearing the first MM JB I purchased...and it's never been sent back to 'the factory' for modification. Though Beth really liked the kinkiness aspect of locking my cock up while she enjoyed herself, she put her foot down about plastic....didn't like the look, thought the plastic would have hygiene issues, and wanted to be able to access enough of my organ to tease me.
I did a lot of research reading (accounts of ordering one too long are very common), and followed MM's measurement instructions to the letter. The only thing that might trigger sending it back is that Beth thinks the spike strip ought to a little bigger, because she is of the opinion it isn't sufficiently punitive. I'm very much hoping she's just teasing, because being 'sentenced' to a few hours with the damn strip in place is truly excruciating. I can't imagine what making it worse would do.

If it's of any help in answering the initial question...
The question that motivated me to join the forum when I did is discussed here: http://chastityforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=60071
I was asking about MM's locking cock ring to test the wear of a trapped ball device in general. Without reiterating everything that was said there, the initial results were encouraging, but then I had a period where I was more often un-comfortable than I was comfortable. I took a few days, and then a week or so, off from wearing it. This past seven days I haven't had it off, haven't had much of a problem, and in fact have found less of a need to lubricate it than at first.
I think it's been a matter of my body getting broken-in to the device. I did use the sizing rings, and think I got it right the first time. Measuring for length while wearing the LCR has verified that dimension as well.
My wife has the dimensions, and when she decides to order a full device (can't help but hope she already has <sigh>), I'm 99% sure I'll be able to transition to wearing it full time, right out of the box.
