Interesting that these (not sure about the A272 actually) do come in a range of lengths.
The A272 is about the length of the old CB3000. It has a sibling the A271 which is about 25 to 30% shorter. And there is a nub length design that is just a cage tip welded to one ring (don't know the number).

Edit: A271 is the shorter version of the A272. A273 is a numb version.

Somebody else has suggested a nub length for me so I'll search out the A272 version.
