Rings, Solid Vs Open

Post by Ospray »

Hello All,

I am hoping for some help. I have been using a CB-3000 (with the updated, CB-6000, rings) but have found it to be rather fragile... not only has my cage split but the base ring I use has also broken...I am hoping to get a metal device as soon as the wallet permits me to. However, I really am not sure if the ring size I use for the CB will translate to a solid metal ring?

I use the 1.75in (44.4mm) CB ring, but as you all know it has an opening at the top...should I shot for the same size or larger, for a solid ring design?

Thank you!

1.75" is 1.75" if the device runs true to size.

Put the top portion back on your CB and measure the ID of the ring. That'll tell you what you need to know. As far as the cost of metal devices go, a few of us here have experimented and modified some of the cheaper devices to work pretty well. I've only been in mine a couple days but I can tell it's already a very good option. See my thread in the devices section for more info there.

I know the Contender is expensive. But it works so well and Mark makes sure it's sized perfectly. I think it tends to be cheaper than all the time and cost of cheap device after cheap device.

If you go to Mature Metal's website. They sell a set of sizing rings that come with all different sizes, and also instructions on how to get the right fit. It is kind of pricey ($25), but it is worth it to get the right size. You dont even have to order your device from MM, you can just order the sizing kit and use those sizes to order elsewhere.

When I bought my Jailbird I went with the same sized ring and although it felt tighter, it is not too tight and I have worn it for over 3 years. Wearing it now.
