It is so light and so strictly confinging, locking my penis so rigidly in place, pushed into my scrotum, that there are hardly any noticeable sensations coming from my genitals. It's kinda the other end of the spectrum from the JB experience.
I only wear the Cobra Nub so can't compare with anything else or get any occasional different experience as you describe, but I do agree entirely that the Cobra keeps me in place, no movement at all, and no real feeling either, apart from when I get aroused but even then, still rigidly in place. It's strict, isn't it? I know nothing of the JB experience as I'm "locked at the other end of the spectrum"!

Well what a difference a day makes!
After saying that I had nothing to compare my Cobra Nub with, I now find myself wearing a House of Denial steel cage, purchased secretly by Emmi and sprung on me yesterday evening.
First impressions are that it's not like the Cobra Nub. It's heavy. It moves. A little uncomfortable (but it's only day 1).

Welcome to the steel side of chastity life. Which model out of curiosity?
MM Jail Bird 11 months straight until January 5. Now it is locked in HOD S160 small as “requested”. It’s…. Different.

It's a House Of Denial, S99.
The one with a larger vertical slot at the end of the cage that's supposed to make peeing easier / less messy.
Also has a smaller internal diameter than the Cobra so should hold him a bit more snugly.
Everything's better with a locked male. Better still with a nude, locked male.

Oddly thats one I tried as she really liked the design, but I couldnt get on with the hinged ring, so we changed it for the JTS S215 (small). Same concept and I've found i can wear that long term, or i could until I got a text today whilst shopping simply saying "change cage". Omg thats a shock when you're walking round Sainsburys, instant hard on in the bread aisle

So now im in a HoD S100 (Standard) which feels utterly different with the birdcage end, I can't really touch the end of my penis, its like its been taken away from me, and so much heavier.

The hinged ring was one aspect that I found fiddly as it seemed to require one hand just to hold it closed whilst getting the cage in place, which required another two hands. I did manage though. I will get another chance to practise in a few day's time when I am due for unlocking.

Miss Emmie regards any awkwardness as acceptable and manageable though as it's not something I'm going to have to deal with very often. That either means we're going back to the Cobra Nub or that there aren't many plans to unlock me. I think the latter is the most likely of those two scenarios to be fair...

There is a style similar to your hinged metal one called the A271. Vertical bars in front (I call it the "observatory" design), and the wide metal ring is oval shaped, and is a lot more comfortable than the round profile ring design.

The "observatory" - I like that name!
