Book "club" has been working great for us, @Tongue+groove. It gives us a regular topic to discuss during footrub, and has been improving our ability to have intimate conversations on vulnerable topics (in part because we're talking about "a third thing" -- that is, not just "me" and "you", but about someone else's ideas and issues in the abstract, though that typically leads to applying it to our personal experiences together, and our feelings). Not sure why I stopped journaling more regularly. Perhaps because things have been moving forward steadily and happily in my intimacy relationship with my wife: no dramatic developments, but positive growth and lots of fun.
