Your base ring should be large enough so that when on, you can get the tip of your pinky between the ring and your body. That seems to work for most. Cage diameter should be set so that the sides of your flaccid penis always touch the cage, but not squeeze the penis. The length should be set so that at the softest, your head still contacts the end. Generally, for the Jail Bird, if you measure your shortest flaccid length and subtract 1/2", it seems to work well. Shorter is better than longer.

I can get my whole thumb in and down the cage for that matter.

Your thoughts are pretty consistent with MM's guidelines.

Your thoughts are that night erections will be more comfortable with the smaller cage, ring, etc. sized according to these guidelines?

I could get my thumb between the base ring and my body after wearing it for a year. That's why my cage got returned for new rings. I don't think that downsizing your cage or ring is necessarily the issue. My suggestion is to try my experiment: Take a picture of yourself when soft and then when trying to get hard and hurting. Maybe then you can see what is causing you the pain. Do you have any anti-pullout devices?

Also, where does it hurt when painful? That might be an indication of the source of the problem.

I have no anti-pullout. My erections at night or during tease and denial have been in dark environments, so I haven't really seen what is going on. I'll have to get a look. I'll also have to focus on where the pain is from, it seems like it is within the circumference of the base ring, but I'm usually just up trying to walk-off the hard and get back to bed - a little unfocused when woken up, except for getting back to sleep ASAP.

Actually, both night and tease and denial erections seem to be getting progressively a bit less painful.

It may go away after a little while. My suggestion is to follow the guidelines relating to sizing. Another size measurement to consider is the "gap". A lot of guys make it smaller than it should be.

I had some well timed morning wood just before time to get up, so I felt and looked at what is going on. The base ring is maybe sliding up a little, stopped by my balls. The main pressure points that bother seem to be at the circumference of the ring.

I seem to be coping with the night erections better. I guess when you go from an unexpected pain between your legs that you've never felt before to something you are getting accustomed to, it makes a difference.

I've been in it right at two days now. My scrotum seems very full, maybe just a bit swollen, as it tends to in the morning. A bit over three days is my record, so hopefully I can break that. I'm getting a bit of help with that, my wife who has been variable about the whole thing took the key to work this morning without my asking.

You really shouldn't be sore or swollen. Maybe it is the gap between the base ring and the cage? Congrats on your wife taking the key to work. My advice is to play it cool. Let her decide the next step.

Just to throw another confusing variable into there, in my own (limited) experience with my CB6ks, I found that while I could easily slip 2 fingers/a thumb into my 2" ring and just 1 finger into the 1 7/8" ring or the 1 3/4" ring, the smaller the ring got, the more burning I'd get during erections.

I tried to get myself used to the 1 7/8" ring, but it was just brutal overnight so I eventually increased to 2" and decreased the gap size, and now my device is positively comfortable for at least 5 day stints. I've certainly read a lot about how smaller rings are somehow more comfortable but I've also read the opposite, here - http://www.chastitymansion.com/forums/i ... ices.5673/, and that seems to line up with my experience much more

I read so much conflicting and generally silly stuff about measuring, I went ahead and did my own research. I've spent 15 years testing chastity devices and even I measured myself incorrectly. The post you cite does make some good points. I don't think anything you do will make a CB6000x comfortable enough for full time wear. I know that some people here have apparently managed it. All I can say is that my Jail Bird, properly fitted, has been on me 24/7 for over a year now. It never hurts to get hard and it is easy to stay clean. I live in mine.

If you are interested, I wrote a fitting guide. It worked for me and others report good luck too. Individual results may vary. http://www.malechastityjournal.com/getting-a-good-fit/

Remember, no trapped ball device is inescapable. And, in my opinion, no guy who wants to practice enforced chastity should try to escape anyway.

My internet was out for a few days.

Good comments. I've read most of the comment linked by gfl, I can relate to the pain, sores at 10 and 2 on the ring. It only happens at 2 on mine, and has forced me out after 2 to 3 days. Makes me think that an oval ring might be relevant for me.

Lots to read more thoroughly. Thanks again.

I have the oval ring. It is great. No soreness at all.
