For me the trade is friction vs. hygiene. If I keep things (head, shaft and balls) lubed up enough to avoid friction and the "biting" sensation on the balls...then its that much harder to keep clean. I'd say use more lube or lotion at the start...you're probably going to be taking it off more often for cleaning as you get used to it anyways. Lower your use a bit, try things out.

Then again, I'm not really setting any long duration records, so that might depend in your goals.
