So after not wearing any device at all for a few days, the pain I was having is finally gone. I may try wearing the Jailbird at night tonight to see how that feels, and then try to ease back into wearing it more. Maybe going 36 hours straight the day I got it was not really enough adjustment period.

I'm a little bummed, the thing fits great, is easy to clean and I feel like apart from this one issue I could wear it nonstop for quite an extended period. I would suggest you order the plastic rings from MM. These rings can help you with the base ring and the cage size. MM base rings are narrower than the CB base rings. The fit may feel different. I have the sizing rings, and without a cage, the 1 7/8" ring is tolerable, but maybe just a tiny bi...
