Re: Is this happening to anyone else? Loss of website
So, I know what’s happening, because I looked this morning: The database is starting up and repairing itself. I also saw that it had some trouble with permissions for routine maintenance and fixed that. What I don’t know is whether that was “it” or there’s something else causing it to restart and go...

Re: Should we switch the forum software?
Self-hosted, not subscribed. We wouldn't be paying them a subscription fee. We'd just pay hosting costs for a VPS, like now.

Re: Should we switch the forum software?
Yeah, Discourse . This is entirely different from Discord. Discord is indeed not well-suited for what we are. Discourse is forum software: Just, newer forum software. There are ofc other options around. In my corner of the world, I see a lot of orgs choosing Discourse, and I think they must have a r...

Re: Is this happening to anyone else? Loss of website
Thanks for the “getting slower and slower” observation. Yes, that points towards the software itself. Daily ain’t great. 😬 I have a poll over in Administrivia to see whether we should migrate to Discourse. It’s actively developed. phpBB, which we are on now, is tbh on life support by the devs. We’d ...

Re: Should we switch the forum software?
There is one advantage to Discourse that is strictly admin-facing: It’s easier to maintain. That might matter next year. I aim to step away for a year.

Re: Should we switch the forum software?
It may or may not. That’s the software not responding - by switching entirely, we might resolve it. Discourse at least is actively developed.
I don’t have a good read on what’s happening when the forum doesn’t respond.

Should we switch the forum software?
We are on phpBB, which is in "maintenance mode". It works about as well as it's going to. Now and then a plugin breaks. Mobile experience can be challenging. We could migrate the whole thing to Discourse, self-hosted. Discourse is a very different layout and experience. It's mobile-first, ...

Re: Does Morning Wood *ever* become less painful?
It really depends on the cage and its fit. I am of exactly average length but uncommon girth - off the shelf stuff is not an option at all. I've tried two cages so far that are comfortable with strong erections. Both do not go the "less is more" route. You have options: The shorter cages t...

Re: So what happened to the forum?
Sorry guys. More log file shenanigans. This time it was a newer version of our DB engine that complained about the structure of the DB … over and over and over again. Relatively simple fix in the end.
