How many deer hunters does the forum have?

Post by ARK »

Sitting in the deer woods for the first time this season.

Read where Tongue and Groove son coming home to deer hunt. So that prompted my question

Opener here last weekend. Always a great time to be in the woods with family and friends. Kids are now starting to hunt which is very fun to be part of.   So-lunar game activity calander was not to hot but this weekend looks great in our area. Also caught a mix of fish on the river in the afternoons between stand hunts.

I always get a kick out of watching those rutting bucks become so silly with hormones, almost loosing theirs minds as they chase what they can't have around the woods until "Mrs. Doe" allows.... kind sounds like a few on this forum who I read often and admire!

If I were inclined to get one, I don't have to 'hunt' for them, I routinely have plenty of deer (and turkey) strolling by the house, I can just step out on the porch and get them. I have enough property that I don't even have to worry about a 'license' or if it's the 'right' season. There are a couple of spots where they like to bed down.

Unfortunately, though I do like to munch on deer and moose (and so does the Mrs., even though she doesn't know it), I can't do the cleaning, skinning and butchering. I noped out of biology class on the day we were supposed to dissect a worm. I can just barely clean a trout or pickerel.

I guess I outed myself. Been a multigenerational family thing as long as I remember. I can’t wait until the grandsons are old enough to go also. Neat thing is that everything nonessential comes to a halt. Like twisted mister we have been blessed with enough acreage that even after the grandkids are old enough we can all safely hunt.

I also like coming in from the woods telling Mrs. G about how many does blew me.

She usually tells me to enjoy it since it’s the only blowing that I’m getting.

Oh yes good fun to be had. Only drawback is time in the deer stand makes me horny as hell. This is my first caged deer season. I’m sure it will have its struggles.

Maybe we should have a forum big buck contest. The deer must be wearing a cage though.

Been winded and snorted at many times... never used your analogy describing it to the wife ... guessing her response would be similar to Mrs G's.

This one always gets me going when I watch my bull run his curled nose under a cow’s urine flow. Then he sniffs to see if she’s in heat.

Me. See honey even he likes it.

I like hiking, and I used to do a fair amount of rock climbing in my younger days, but nobody in my family were hunters, so I never really had any exposure. A couple of the old timers at work used to save up their vacation time and go every season, but hearing about hours spent sitting in the cold and coming home empty handed didn't sound very appealing to me. 😅

Deer hunting means different things to different people.

My buddy at work gets very excited about deer hunting. He and his brother go into the national forest and primitive camp. You have what you bring with you. Food, water, fire wood, tent, etc. He plans on providing enough deer meat to last his family 6 months.

My brother is a member of a deer camp. There are different levels of deer camps. The high end has a camp mother that will cook and clean for the members. His camp, members do the cooking and cleaning. Brother is an expert on making cat head biscuits. Another member is a chef when preparing a southern delicacy, fried deer steaks with gravy, mashed potatoes, cream corn.

Me, I have a simple ground blind. I walk approximately 30 yards from my back door to my blind. Some hunters have elevated stands. I do not. 1) I do not want to fall out of a stand with a load weapon. 2) Too much work climbing up a stand. My hunting technic, sit in a very comfortable chair, go to sleep and wait for a deer to wake me up to shoot him. Favorite thing about deer hunting is getting to my blind at O dark thirty and watch the world wake up. Pitch black, can only see a few feet in front of you to a bright crisp day. Birds start chirping, squirrels running around, it is amazing.

Hunting is a very alpha male activity. The start of this topic was to find out how many members display an exterior alpha male while being interior beta male. My self, exterior lazy alpha male (add economically conservative) and interior beta male.

Note, I hunt with a Marlin 30-30. Good knock down power out to 100 yards (not walking any further than that to get a deer) and it looks like a John Wayne (Super Alpha Male) gun.

I think that a lot of us here do not consider themselves to be "inferior betas".

Observing our herd makes me realize that instincts and nature are always in the background of what we do, especially sexually. We just take it further. Lol
