Waiting for Whats New

Post by jsmith12 »

I feel like new things in hardware should be on the horizon.

With modern tech getting very small, many great wireless technologies in short & longer distances, great battery tech, smart phones and the internet, 3d-printing for advanced design & fabrication even by amateurs - there should probably be interesting hardware options showing up, more and better than just "The CellMate".

I'd also find it interesting if there was any more mainstream mention of this particular kink, or if there were quality new blogs showing up.

That's all - I'll be glad when there is something new : )

I work in research for wearable devices (wristbands and glasses thought, not cages :) ). There is a lot of very interesting potential technology. We're working on a wristband that detects nerve impulses running through your wrist, so a slight movement of a finger can generate a signal. In some cases, even *thinking* about moving a finger can create a signal we can pick up. Imagine a shock cage activated by your keyholder making a small, inconspicuous motion with her finger. Or, we also have haptics, including squeeze actuators. Imagine a different little motion from her causing the base ring to squeeze your balls.

The problem is, none of that is cheap to develop. These things can take ten million + to design, prototype and make functional. Manufacturing is also really expensive until you get to the hundreds of thousands in volume. I could make a pretty damn diabolical and fun device, but it would cost $10k or $20k per unit.

Then there's the battery situation. It it's electronic, it needs a battery, and a small, powerful battery that won't catch fire (you don't want a Lithium-Ion battery locked to any part of your body, especially *that* part) are a big challenge.

But, the future always holds promise.
