Post by Ryan »

I used an epilator last night down below. Let me tell you the results were great but man it hurt like a mofo. I've read it get easier but holy crap that hurt. lol. Anyone else have any experience using one of these things? Perhaps I was using it wrong or something.

Hi Ryan

I have been considering trying an Epilator but to be honnest have not got the guts to have a go yet. Not overly happy with the stubble that comes from shaving and wanted more of a smooth finish. I support your question any way of doing this without it hurtting like hell?

Well I figured I'd post some kind of an update for anyone that may be interested. The results were fantastic. I was a bit tender yesterday but the area I did use the epilator on is as smooth as silk. Today however is not tender at all. I waited for the hair to grow out to about 3-4 mm. Be warned it hurt. Alot! Took me about 3 hours because I had to stop so much a take a break. I've done a bit reading and apparently doesn't matter what ya do it hurts. Period! lol. One bit of advice, try and get the skin as tight as possible while you tweeze, and shower & exfoliate first to open up the pores. I also used ice to numb things down a bit as I was going. I'd remove some hair then use ice....then remove some more, and so on. There was a very small amount of blood drops but was told this was normal around the pubic area. When I was finished I used an antibiotic cream. I used the cream again today after I showered to be on the safe side. People also say to exfoliate everyday to keep the ingrown hair down which I plan on doing. I mean a bottle of the exfoliate is only like 8 bucks and will last a long while. I'm just a regular joe who didn't like the stubble after a day or two of shaving and found the stubble to be a bit tender. I have no desire to be hair free anywhere else (nor does my wife). I'm not a pain slut and had no other motives to do this other that the rash from the stubble. Hope this helps!

me and jaysf used nair for me though we used it to long and it produced a burning, that lasted a few days. may try it again at half the time because it is much easier that shaving to get everything off.

OK, so I also got tired of the stubble and decided to give it a try. I must say I started to hate the sound of that little evil machine before it was all over... it's all pink and so, but still evil. The upside is that it works very well, I think it pulled just about every single hair out by the root :)
I also had about 4 mm hair length. At first I tried without showering and exfoliation, because the epilator manual said not to exfoliate before epilation for some reason!? I quickly decided to have a hot shower and exfoliate. I think it might have improved the experience somewhat, and it did not affect the end result in any way. I have one warning, be careful not pushing down to hard or having moist/warm skin as it may cause the rotating rubber/metal head of the machine to grip your skin and give you a friction burn (not very pleasant). The next time I think I will try using some powder if I'm going to do it straight out of a shower. Also had some blood drops, not to bad.
I agree with R It is definitely worth it. It hurts and I eventually got to the point where I just wanted it over with. The end result is a good motivator though!

Thanks for posting Ryan!

Has anyone tried the No No Hair Removal System that has been so heavily advertised recently? It's expensive ($200 - $300, even on eBay), but if it works half as well as the ads make it out to, I'd be willing to spring for one just to avoid the damned barber's rash.

Another forum I am a member of has discussed this to death with many members owning them and the conclusion is almost a unanimous "They don't work".

Several of them have had luck with and do recommend the Tria home laser. There are also a few that have had poor / no results with that too.

If you really want permanent hair removal the best bet is professional laser (if your skin / hair are compatible) followed by electrolysis. Very expensive but excellent results.

I almost bought the no no but after some research found that it didn't work on coarse hair, and there were also some very mixed results. I'm glad I used the epliator. Results are great. I use it now about once a week just to get the stray hair that grows in. It doesn't hurt one bit anymore. If your able to get past the first time the rest is easy peasy.

I think I need to find a new epilator... this was the second time I used it and the damn thing did not pull all of the hairs out with the root, maybe because the new hairs were thinner and weaker. To makes matters worse that rotating rubber/metal head is still viciously grippy and easily gives me a friction burn despite the use of powder. The machine is a Phillips satinelle soft, do not go anywhere near it!

Any suggestions for a good machine?

I have moved on to hot wax and it is way better! An extra bonus is that it involves my KH/wife in the process and she enjoyed it, i think... at least she had few laughs...
