Survey: Holy Trainer 2 breakages and lotions/soaps

Background: I'm currently awaiting my second replacement Holy Trainer 2 tube having had two identical breakages! Their customer service has been fine and they swear this is not supposed to happen. However, I'm wondering whether some product I use causes the problem, either the sterilizing fluid I used when it arrived or the coal-tar anti-dandruff shampoo I use regularly. Hence this survey...

If your Holy Trainer 2 broke:

How long had you used it and how regularly?

What products was it exposed to?

I had the same thing happen. The cages broke in the part of the cage that the magic locker goes through, on the top side where the material is thinnest. Both times it happened while I was drying things off and applying some silicone oil on the underside of the shaft after a hot shower. I don't think it is related to any lotions etc. Rather it's a combination of the nature of the bio resin, design and stress applied.

Here's what I think was happening. The bio resin softens when it gets above a certain temperature - and it certainly does that when you take a hot shower. That allows the "keystone" at the top of the sheath to shift and slip out of the part of the ring with which it interlocks as you lift up on the cage. (try it without the magic locker in place - you'll see what I mean) This puts stress on the top of the lock area on the cage, which is also soft because it's warm. The thin part then stretches and snaps.

My answer was 1]stop showering with the HT on and 2] find a metal device that I could leave on all the time. The HT is the most comfortable of all the devices I've tried, but if you don't want to take it off every time you shower it could be a problem.

No problems with mine and I bath in it in hot water all the time !!

Hmm. Somebody else on Twitter showers in his all the time.

Also, if they were always this fragile then the internet would be full of complaints (unless a significant number of people don't wear their devices as much as they say they do.)

I'm starting to suspect that it IS to do with a product.

i guess it's possible, all that i've used on mine is hand lotion and baby oil. They don't say you can't use certain things though from memory ?? Maybe they'll find something ?? Good luck.

The Holy Trainer site also says the following, which leads me to believe that it is resistant to most chemicals.

It is very strong and will withstand exposure to alcohol or any other solvent.

and

It is very resistant to chemical agents, solvents, oils and water.

Which would imply that contact with most anything that won't harm your skin should be OK. Therefore silicone oil would be OK. I can't find anything on the HT site (not a vendors site) that says that you can't use a silicone oil or lotions to lubricate, or what things should be avoided.

Looking at mine it is a thin area that would break reasonably easily if anything was going too. Perhaps you've been unlucky but if i was HT i'd be looking at a design modification for the next model !!
