Received my MM jailbird on Wednesday, and of course put it on right away. I ordered two base rings (2 and 1 7/8), so I started with the 2" ring. The fit was great, it was far more comfortable than the CB6K/3K that I've got, I could barely tell I was wearing it. I decided not to try to sleep in it, since it was a work night, but I put it on before work the next day and wore it to work. I didn't have any issues at all, it shows less under clothing and again, was way more comfortable (wearing jeans). I decided to give sleeping in it a shot, and figured if I woke up I'd just take it off. I managed to sleep all night in it, which I'd not really ever been able to do in the plastic devices.
I took a shower before work Friday, and was able to clean everything up great using a foam swab thingy. Friday morning, though, sitting at my desk, I started to notice a sort of dull ache. I snuck off to the bathroom and put the 1 7/8" ring on (which I'd tried before, and it also fits fine.. in fact it probably fits better than the 2"), and went back about my work day. I could still feel the minor aching and I didn't think much of it, but by Friday afternoon when I got home, it was starting to feel a bit more sore, so I figured I better take a look and try to see what was going on.
So, I took the device off and started to inspect myself. I found two places that were somewhat sore, sort of like a bruise. One on the top of the shaft, at the base (near where the penis joins the body), and one on the underside of the base of the shaft. The one underneath had a little discoloration on the skin, but that wasn't painful... the pain was coming from down inside... like the tendons that connect your penis to your body, and again, the closest thing I could compare it to would be a bruise (but, not exactly).
Anyone else experienced anything like this? I've theorized that maybe just the weight of the device is heavier, so it is putting some pressure on that location that I'm just not used to. I emailed MM, and he suggested that we extend the gap by 1/16", but I'm not sure that it's the gap that's the issue.. I think the pain on the top side is actually possibly coming from the base ring, and not the cage itself.
I'm a little bummed, the thing fits great, is easy to clean and I feel like apart from this one issue I could wear it nonstop for quite an extended period. Any help/thoughts/advice would be appreciated!

I wouldn't send it back yet to have the gap opened up. It doesn't sound like a gap issue to me but even if it was I would give it a little more time. I have had more problems with too much gap rather than too little. The only time too little has caused problems (for me) is the dreaded ball burn during nocturnal erections. It doesn't sound like that is your problem.
Good luck getting is sorted out.

That is very similar to what I'm experiencing, actually. Thanks for that link!poor wrote:Similar themed thread with the Steelworxx Steelheart: http://www.chastityforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=20280

What sort of issues have you had related to too large a gap?Atone wrote:Be patient.DNelson2 wrote: I'm a little bummed, the thing fits great, is easy to clean and I feel like apart from this one issue I could wear it nonstop for quite an extended period. If the gap is too large it can squeeze my balls instead of trapping them. I mean, they are still trapped but there is some lateral pressure on them as well.DNelson2 wrote: What sort of issues have you had related to too large a gap?

Re: New Jailbird!
So after not wearing any device at all for a few days, the pain I was having is finally gone. I may try wearing the Jailbird at night tonight to see how that feels, and then try to ease back into wearing it more. Maybe going 36 hours straight the day I got it was not really enough adjustment period.

DNelson2:
I believe I had something like what you described. Went from a CB6000s to a JB and MM recommended with what I told them a 3/8" gap. I wanted to go smaller since I wore the smallest spacer with the CB6000s. They advised that the plastic has more "give" than the metal does so I went with their suggestion. After wearing it for a day or two I developed some problems where you described. As a matter of fact I was in so much discomfort that I couldn't wait for my wife to come home from work to rip the thing off. What I did was to take the base ring down to my shop and clamp the ring in a vice (after wrapping it in a soft cloth to prevent marking up the stainless). I then took a pry bar, and again while protecting the metal I ever so carefully bent the post up just a very small amount (like 1/8"). This increased the gap size at the bottom of the base while the top remained the same. This slight modification made a world of difference. I knew if this didn't solve the problem or if I went too far I could always bend the post back. Worked for me and it might help your situation.

Don't give up quite so easily. It takes a long while to get used to a MM device. Even going from one device to another requires a wearing in period. What I would suggest doing is, when you sense a sore spot, put a dab of moisturizing lotion on the tip of your finger and massage that one spot. Often times, I put a little bit of lotion on the base of my shaft where it meets the scrotum the first time I put it on after a break. Eventually your body will adjust, but it can take a long time. I'm talking weeks of wear. When I first started with my current MM device, I was getting bruising on the sides of my scrotum, burning on the bottom, and even a raw place occurred on the bottom once. But I worked through it, allowed healing when necessary, and eventually it all went away. You have to be careful because things like this can really discourage your KH/spouse even more than yourself. Above all, she, most likely, does not want you to injure yourself. So take it easy and give it time.DNelson2 wrote: I'm a little bummed, the thing fits great, is easy to clean and I feel like apart from this one issue I could wear it nonstop for quite an extended period. Re: New Jailbird!
Just to update: the pain I was feeling wasn't really anything that felt like a problem with the skin (no burning or anything). What I was feeling was a deeper pain, sort of like a bruise, on the top part of the base of the shaft, where the tendons (or whatever they are) connect it to your abdomen. It was a little sore for a few days, and then seems to have healed. I've started trying to wear the device again, but I'm going to ease into it this time, rather than just dive right in. I"m hoping it is just my body wasn't used to the extra weight of the steel device vs a cb6k/3k.
