It puts the lotion on its skin...

Okay, so I've mentioned a few times that I've been using (wearing? sporting?) the A272 stainless steel cage. Through out the New England winter it's been about the most comfortable, convenient, and secure thing I've used (worn?), and is quite possibly even better than my heavily modded CB3000.

One of the issues with a snug tube is that your penis gets pushed and pulled during the course of the day, and without some lubrication inside, it can end up in a weird spot that makes it inconvenient to pee, especially at a urinal (I can't reach a finger through the cage end to readjust). In the past I've used different lotions, but this year I've tried a few different oils. The ones I've stuck with have been some JO lube with silicone - very long lasting - and coconut oil, which while not as long lasting, is all natural.

The issue I've had with oils in the past has always been that they retain sweat, dirt, dead skin cells, urine, etc., and ends up smelling. The A272 (couldn't they have thought of a better name?) has a very snug tube (33mm, which is smaller than the CB3000/6000 narrow size of 35mm). With no "head" of the device, it's snug all the way down, and there's no room to clean well.

I found the silicone lube was harder to clean, but even the coconut oil stayed in the tube; no matter how much I cleaned in the shower every night, there was still some funk at the end of the week when it came off for a 2 minute scrub. "Smells like feet," is how Mrs Edge put it once.

So, just for the hell of it, I went back to the lotion. My preferred is some variation of Gold Bond; they seem to have a thicker lotion. I've used the Shea butter style, but Mrs Edge hated the smell, so I tried their mildly scented Healing with Aloe version. I apply a little bit on the inside of the tube each morning with a Q-tip, and slather some around the cuff ring.

Even though it's thicker, the lotion is much easier to clean. I prefer to shower at night, and the lotion rinses out of the cage with no issues. I've been using it for four, maybe five weeks now, and I'd almost say that there's no need to remove it for the weekly scrub: I've not noticed any odors at all. We just tried skipping a week, with no ill effects.

I know that the flip side of this is that when you want a little lubrication around the ring during the day, lotion tends to give out around lunch and needs to re reapplied. I haven't tried lotion inside and oil outside because that goes against my concept of convenience. So far, the little bit remaining at the end of the workday is okay; I just shift things around a little more.

Anyhow, since the question comes up once in a while, I'm back to my assertion of 15 years ago: lotion is probably the better option for most guys.

Good info. I’ll try some Gold Bond when we play with that device.

I use O'Keefe's Working hands when my hands dry out from either extreme heat or cold. Having just been locked up for the first time I haven't had any problems yet. If/when I do I may try it. They also make a cream for the feet that might work better in an enclosed or damp area.

It's probably fine. I think the important part is that it can easily wash out with warm, soapy water. I've had absolutely no issues since I switched back to lotion from both oil and silicone lubes. Even coconut butter, as mild as it is, would mean I'd need to remove the cage once a week for cleaning. The lotion allows it to be left on literally for weeks at a time.

CM doesn't use any kind of lubricant anymore... Not regularly anyway. He does have a spray he uses for post shaving and sprays that on which slicks things up but I think that's all he does and probably not everyday.

Maybe @cagedmonkey should respond lol

Just wanted to add a suggestion for lubrication. I was recently given Eucerin original healing lotion for some serious burns that included my left nipple, it has done wonders for me. So, I tried it on KBT because his penis doesn't slide into the tube easily. It only tales a little bit and works wonderfully! It also soaks into his skin quickly and is a great skin conditioner. When I remove the tube for cleaning there is never any lotion residue in it. 😁

I take a dab of lotion on a cotton swab and smear it around the inside of the tube. This allows me to more easily use a urinal (all the activity will make me slide around in it, and the lube makes it easier to line up at the tip).

Earlier this week, for reasons I don't remember, I did not put a dab of lotion in, and spent the day doing something in the heat. The next day I had to remove the cage for a bike ride*, and there was definitely an odor.

My thinking is that the water based lotion is just enough to protect loose skin, and because it so easily flushes out with warm, soapy water in a shower, it remains cleaner than not using any lotion.

* Yes, I know I've determined that I can ride with my new saddle, but when I'm riding, it's inconvenient to have to make "adjustments" every five miles.

KBT rides also, but I don't think his cage will be an issue because he rides a Harley trike and is able to sit more upright. But then, only time will tell. His trike is down at the moment, but we're hoping to have it up & running very soon. I want to go camping on the beach near Corpus Christi. It's so cool that we can camp right on the edge of the sand.

Hmmm good thought.
