It's mostly because of you, Tom, that I don't associate any specific type of device with those who are "doing it right". You're still in the CB3K (albiet a heavily modified one), so the assumption that it's a beginner's device is not entirely true. I do think those starting out should be in plastic for a number of reasons, but there's no rule written anywhere that says you must move to metal after a certain period of time if you want to sit at the cool kid's table.

For us (Belle and I) it's mostly an aesthetic decision. Belle likes the steel and hates the plastic. I like that I can make the SH totally secure, but the reality is I'll wear whatever she lets or wants me to wear, as long as it works on my body.

I will admit, my metal fetish led to me dismissing a CB device at the beginning, resulting in an expensive mistake. If I knew then what I knew now, I would have gone right to a Jailbird from MM, but I wouldn't have had a clue how to size it, so in that respect, the CB-6000s was a good interim device. But I don't expect Ab to be wearing it again, except maybe if we fly on a plane.

Your statement can easily be taken to mean that you assume a correlation between those who have practiced this for some longer period of time and those who use steel devices.

You certainly can take it that way if you like. The reason I asked the question though is because I don't just assume that. I can just as easily imagine that there are a lot of people that start with a plastic device because they are readily accessible, decide they like it, incorporate it into their lives how they see fit and move on. We never hear from those individuals in a forum like this.

From the short time that I have been involved in this community and from observing both it and other groups that I associate with it does seem that those individuals that spend a lot of time on forums like this have a strong passion often bordering on obsession with their hobby. It would seem reasonable that they would be on the lookout for newer, better, more comfortable, hotter, etc... devices. I would also expect to see many individuals that also modified their devices to be the best for them whether they are plastic or metal. I would also expect some that would just use whatever they had out of the box and not focus on the device itself much at all.

I liked my CB3000 a lot. I was looking to get a CB6000S because I needed something a little smaller but didn't really intend to go with a metal device. After hanging out in malechastityforum.com for a while though I discovered the mature metal devices and fell in love (obsession) with them. In my other hobby I have many, many custom 'devices' and accessories. I have learned of the value of something that is made just for you, that fits perfectly, that functions perfectly, that looks exactly the way you want. For me that is part of the fun. The pursuit of perfection. I am not saying that I am anywhere close to that in any part of my life. But I do like the pursuit.
