Argh, keeps popping off

I know, I know. Fit is the hardest part and takes several cages and attempts to get it right.

I thought I had lucked out with this latest cheap Chinese cage but I'm finding there are circumstances where I can suddenly slip out.

Takes a while to get everything through the base ring and the cage is pretty small but it all works... and then, it doesn't. I was laying in bed when I felt a sudden shift as one of my balls popped behind the ring. I did some exploring not wanting to use my emergency key and found that I could shift things to the center-low on the ring and carefully slip through the ring with the cage locked.

I guess there is too much of a gap in that one spot and it is causing unintentional escapes. My runs also pose a problem because everything retracts close to the body and makes slipping out very likely. Ran for 90 minutes this morning and when I went to shower I found the cage was completely free.

I decided that the gap had to be reduced and took a pair of channel locks to the cage. Nothing moved. It is more substantial than it looks.

Until I get the NEXT cage with this lesson learned, any DIY fixes that anyone would suggest?

I thought about wrapping the ring with medical tape in the problem area but don't want to learn any hard lessons.

you can try and bend the cage a little to change the gap between the ring and the back of the cage.

I know it is hard to swallow, but if you save all the dollars you have spent on multiple learning experiments and spend some time measuring closely and communicating with a quality stainless steel manufacturer, you will be much happier in the long run. Best advice for existing cage I can come up with in trying to bend the cage to tighten gap as has already been suggested,

I agree with locked4now. Even doing what he said, I had to send my Jail Bird back twice for tweaks before it was perfect. But then, it was perfect, and using those perfect dimensions, the Watchful Mistress I subsequently ordered was perfect the first time. I have enjoyed both devices for years now. They hae been well worth the time, effort and money I invested.

As I mentioned in my original post, the cage is fair substantial and I'm not sure I have the tools to reshape it. I would need a vice, a torch and then heat and shape the angle of the ring over the post.

I will say it is consistent in that EVERY time I run, everything escapes and I have to get settled back in via unlocking and replacing everything to where it should be.

There appears to be some 'play' between the pin on the base ring and the cage which if I could find the right size washer or metal spacer that could live on the pin might keep the cage from shifting upward. I guess it is worth a try but I can see a custom cage in my future. I just don't see the conversation happening yet.

I have the exact same problem.
Im high n tight with a off the shelf Chinese device (See my avatar) Now what I did was I have a round base ring but I had the strut bar shaved down to the base if the ring so when i place the cage over the strut I can use washers as a spacer like a CB device then add the lock and now Ive no give.
This allows me to make the Gap anything I like as Ive found the standard gap is 8mm Well im more like 4mm or 5mm.
Ive tried Multiple size rings with this modification and I can escape them all even rings too small for me (Went blue then popped through)

Do i still pop out YES but not as much as I used too but if I turn the right way I can still pop out . Ive had a CB device with no gap at all and i could still pop out...its just down to my right ball being smaller and very squishy it just slips through.

I don't have any personal experience with it, but I have heard of using layers of plasti-dip to reduce the inner ring diameter slightly.
