Havent had it done yet but plan on it at somepoint and would say the doctor is just trying to get more money out of you.

Local anesthetic, snip snip and that was it. A bag of frozen peas and take it easy for a few days and you're good to go! I had mine on a Friday afternoon and I was back at work on Monday.

Results may vary.
The procedure itself was painless and it wasn't that uncomfortable afterwards.
I had serious bruising that took months to completely clear and it was 18 months before I was declared all clear.

One thing that might clash with the lifestyle here, is that after the operation you are required to cum as often as possible.

I'd still recommend it.

I had a local and was wide awake during the entire procedure. It is the most amount of attention my penis has had from strange women in my life, everyone in the room apart from me was a female!

Just one word of warning, make absolutely positively that your Wife wants this gift. I had mine done for the same reason and a good while later she told me how upset she was I did it. She had been hoping for another child but hadn't told me. Even if you aren't trying for a family you will feel different about your inability to create progeny afterwards.

Also there is the fact that while your testicles are still producing sperm none of it will be travelling out of you when you do have an orgasm. (Should I say 'if?) I don't know if this has any effect on the famous blue balls experience, but it is something to take into account.

awesome, thanks everyone for your replies. Was kind of offline during the weekend which is why i did not respond.

I am upset with the urologist for "recommending" a full blown anesthetic and might consider writing to the clinic - doesn't seem very ethical.

Regarding my wife, she wants it - we have the age and last kid gave complications and we got the recommendation to not work on a third as the complications with the next ones would be greater. So this Urologist won't see me again - thanks so much to all of you - not ONE of you came forward with a full blown - that shows what a nasty recommendation I got.

Just another thought, the idea of having a GA for a vasectomy is frankly ridiculous. I worked in hospitals straight out of school for five years and ended up working as a Theatre orderly. I assisted many operations including vasectomies and circumcisions. We are talking back at the end of the 1980's. NOBODY had a full GA, at all. if they were particularly nervous they were given a mild analgesic to calm their nerves but even that was rare.

thanks, that is what i thought AFTER reading all your recommendations. I HATE greedy doctors who don't care about well being of their patients.. Will make an official complaint and will demand an answer from the clinic itself.

update: filed a formal complaint with the clinic and will go with a different specialist from a different clinic. tomorrow is first appointment in which we will discuss. they have a lot of info on thier website and perform the no scalpel vasectomy. wish me luck

I had mine done with a local in the doctor’s office just shy of 30 years ago. There was no issue. Minor swelling and mild discomfort for a couple days. Had it done on Friday and was back to work on Monday.

I agree with those that suggested that a general anaesthetic is way over the top. The complications from a general can be worse than the surgery itself. I have had several operations (much more serious than vasectomy) were I was given a general anaesthetics. I had no side effects however my wife recently had an operation which required a general.

It was supposed to be day surgery in the morning and she was expecting to be released that afternoon. The surgery went well however she had an adverse reaction to the anaesthetic. She had severe nausea and very low oxygen levels. They had to pump her full of drugs to assist with the nausea and administer oxygen as her levels were very low. She ended up throwing up blood and it was coming out through both her mouth and nose. She had to be admitted to hospital overnight however she was released the next day.

The recovery from the surgery should have been 2-3 days but ended up being closer to 2 weeks because of the reaction to the general.

Now the funny part, funny to me because it now was close to 30 years ago.

The night after my vasectomy I was in a lounge chair around a camp fire having a drink or 2 with friends. I had an ice pack under my sweat pants, and was the butt of more than a few jokes.

While in my lawn chair my then 3 year old daughter came running over to me and jumped up on my lap to give me a hug. Her knee landed on the ice pack and other parts below the ice pack. Naturally I reacted verbally to the discomfort as well as the physical reaction of putting both hands my groin.

The first thing I noticed was that if it wasn’t for the noise of the fire you could have heard a pin drop on the grass. I also learned there is such a thing as sympathy pain because not only did all the guys automatically place both hands over their groin, all the lady’s had their hands over their groins and looks of discomfort on their faces.

thanks for the reply newtochast57, funny to read about the incident involving your daughter and the reaction of the visitors ;)

Got official response from the clinic already and am still shaking my head.
Basically they are saying - I got offered 2 choices both are equal. The price is the same for both. Seems to me that Chile is backwards in that sense :(

I should take whichever I want to take. I have found a different doctor at a less prestigious clinic now, he is known for doing this treatment and i feel more comfortable with him.
