That certainly goes a way toward explaining how I developed a UTI as a result of being dehydrated- normal urination likely flushes bacteria before they can a 'critical mass' threshold; reduced urinary output could allow colony size to develop to a point where normal urination is no longer adequate as a means of control, which allows colonies to flourish and then dominate and spread.

I feel like I should have recognized this sooner, as this mechanism of reproduction is something that I have been dealing with for a long time, with positive or negative effects depending on which project in which it is occurring.
