Piercings...Got 'em? Love 'em?

The first thing I ever had pierced was my ears (naturally). They were done back in college by a friend in the dorm with a needle and an ice cube. I only have one hole in each ear. I never had the urge to have more.
Back in 2000, I got my navel pierced. I had lost a lot of weight and did it as a treat to myself. It took forever to heal (close to a year) and eventually migrated. I took it out a few years ago and don't miss it. When I saw Britney Spears had a navel piercing I was a little less enchanted with mine.
At naturist events, I saw lots of different piercings. There was one couple with matching "his and hers" nipple piercings with beautiful gold rings. That's when I decided I wanted to get mine done but it took me ages to finally get up the nerve. I think I was a little nervous because my navel took so long to heal, but in comparison, nipples were nothing. I got them done in 2006 and switched to the gold rings one year later. They are 14 g, 3/4". I had thought about 1" but the sales guy thought that would be too big. I started off with a 16 g, 1/2" captive bead steel ring (pretty standard).
Ab got his left nipple pierced on my 50th birthday. He had it pierced a second time (double piercing) with a straight bar. Unfortunately, the guy who did it put it in crooked and it always looked crappy, so he ended up taking it out pretty quick. He got the right one done a few years ago but again, he had lots of problems with healing so he took that one out too. His 1 for 3 experience is the reason he is a little gun shy about getting a PA.
I find it amusing that people react to piercings so strongly and for many, very negatively. If you don't like it, take it out. It's much less permanent than a tattoo and people are pretty blase about those.
What other experiences have folks had?
