Forum has a bug

Post by likes2blocked »

I don't know what you can do about this, but there's a bug. If I start editing a reply, and another reply comes in after the original, but before I post, then my reply disappears. This has happened 3 times now, which is annoying.

The other forum would go to a page that would tell me someone had posted, did I really want to do that. It could possibly have something to do with using the quick reply.

Oddly, this happened to me this morning, and I was using the full reply option. Fortunately, I kept hitting the Back button, and my response was still in the cache.

The issue is not just on this particular forum; I've noticed it elsewhere. I suspect it has something to do with the order in which responses are cataloged by the forum database.

I had the same thing happen once. Like Tom, I hit back a few times and there it was.

At some point, I'll probably transition to a different platform. phpBB seems like it's stuck in 2002...

It would be nice to have a few extra features like RSS, and being able to subscribe to threads etc...

The nice thing about phpBB though is the simplicity of the UI. Some of the forums out there are so cluttered and laid out so poorly that it is hard to follow a discussion.

I'm most familiar with Invision, but it costs something like $250. If the time comes, maybe I'll pass a hat or something...

ouch, that looks like chastity mansion. I guess it is unfortunate that to get the advanced features you also pick up all the other 'stuff' that distracts from just using it. I don't go on CM too often but I find that I have to actually work at navigating the site and paying attention to who is posting what, where, and when. On this forum it just seems easier. That is also a benefit of a more narrow focus and not having a dozen sub-forums many of those with half a dozen or more sub-sub-forums.

I'd expect you could cut some of the ancillary crap out. Most of the stuff on the right side of the screen is useless and distracting, if you ask me.

Over Balkanization of content on a forum is a huge problem, I agree. The more you try to dice it up, the more users get confused and either put stuff where it doesn't belong or just don't post for fear of bringing down the wrath of the overlords (over exuberant moderation being the next most egregious sin, IMO).

Please don't change everything. Just wanted a bug fixed. Maybe there's a configuration option to prompt if there's a newer post, as I haven't seen that happen here.
