Auto Drafts - never lose a post again

@Tullyboy lost a post, and to make that be the last one that was lost, I installed Auto Drafts.
Edit: And after this change @Naljeans lost one, so I’ve disabled quick replies.

Every 20 seconds by default - adjustable in User Control Panel -> Board Preferences -> Auto Draft - a draft of your post will be saved.

Edit: This works in the “Full Editor” for New Topic or Post Reply. When in Quick Reply, click "Full Editor & Preview" to gain Auto-Save. Quick replies are disabled in the Journal forum.

If you navigate away from posting or close the window, that draft will be auto-loaded the next time you click "New Topic" or “Post Reply” or "Full Editor & Preview". That's the default setting, which you can also override in the User Control Panel. Another default is that drafts will be deleted once you submit a post.

Drafts contain text, but no attachments.

All your drafts are visible and editable in User Control Panel.

Wonderful Schnoff.

Have lost more than a few over the years due to a computer hickup or a time out drop.
Thanks.

Wait, you mean nobody drafts posts ina text editor then copies/pastes into the forum?

Obviously people who grew up before dialup modems and single phone lines. 😎

^And learned you better do the same if you're using Yahoo mail. God, Yahoo mail sucked!

Thanks Shnoff! I've lost way too many long posts to even count.

I honestly wasn’t even thinking about drafts until Tullyboy mentioned that he lost a post. When there is an aspect of the forum that doesn’t quite work right, that makes life more difficult than it needs to be, do speak up.

Finding an extension that resolves “whatever it is” can be challenging, and, there are a lot of extensions. If it’s even remotely something a lot of people might want, it probably already exists.

Kind of like the Rule 34 of forum administration.
😁

LOL!

While I have gotten away from using the txt editor first, I *do* have a habit (when writing something long) of periodically hitting ctrl-a, ctrl-c, just in case...and then saving it to a txt file if I'm not going to finish it immediately.

It took me a couple of minutes to figure out why my screen kept moving (I'm here before I've had more than a couple of sips out of my first cup of coffee in the AM, so I'm more than a little 'slow' at that point). My opinion- every 20 seconds is a bit too frequent.

@TwistedMister Adjust it to 60s in UCP! I’m erring on the side of more frequent saves as a default, and, that can be adjusted. Even turned off completely I think.
