GOOD NEWS EVERYONE: Search is fixed - we've moved

Hello everyone!

You've stuck with the forum for two years since Search broke and tried to sell you Viagra. I'm amazed. You had every right to vote with your feet, and many of you did. But not all! We have a core of users who post daily, and for you, we're making this right. Also, we love you. :P

So, first things: Search is fixed! You can safely search.

What's this about a move?

Thumper has stepped away from the forum. He got it started, and once he did, you all piled in and made it the amazing place it is.

To be able to maintain the forum, have it be secure, and add features, we've moved it, kit and kaboodle. All your posts will be there, all your logins will work. Your avatars and file attachments will still be there. The old forum name will be kept.

We're fixing Search (done), enabling https -ermagerd our forum now has a lock icon, how apropos! (done, apologies for the resulting extended outage) and adding a Like button (done).

Question for you! What else would you like? What do you need from your forum?

We're up and running. If you find any issues, please respond here. There were a couple errors during import. Hopefully nothing major.

The old theme is coming back. I've got Bear insisting I do housework, so it will be until later today before I get around to doing more forum work.

BTW, everybody, please welcome new admin Schnoff, who is obviously the one who is making this all possible.

We all know that it's been frustrating at times, but most of you should be used to frustration, right?

Anyway, we're all glad to get things moving along again.

If, like me, you're wondering: Where have my "new posts" and "unread posts" links gone? They're now in the quick links hamburger menu on the top left.

So what I think I'm reading here is that 'good things come to those who wait.' That should be a theme that many around here can understand.

Welcome and THANK YOU Schnoff! And thank you Tom for always, always being there.

I'd like a LIKE button, sometimes words aren't necessary but a pat on the back is helpful for the poster to know you read it and appreciated them.

I've seen on other forums that the messages read is tracked like it is here but it also takes you to the first unread message when you click on a thread you have already read some of the content. If it is a particularly active thread, you don't have to remember the last time you checked on it.

That exists, it's the "unread posts" icon to the left of a thread. Click that when it's red and it takes you right to the first unread post in a thread.

A couple small changes that you can ignore or take advantage of in your user profile:

- American English is now an available language option.
- You can set a gender. All kinds of options, which correspond to icons. Play around with it and you'll see.

Changes to registration:
- I've changed it to require a minimum age of 18. That means registration asks for a birthdate, which is however not copied into the user profile.
- Captcha now just asks for the name of the bunny, not for the device he wears. One of those questions was far harder than the other.

Feedback? Is 18 a good age limit for the forum?

So the GDPR is a thing. I figured I'd do the absolute minimum.

- There is a privacy and a cookie policy. it can be seen in the navbar at the bottom under "policies"
- Your IP address is anonymised
- You can see the personal data the forum has on you, in the User Control Panel under "Privacy Data"
- You can request removal of your account
- The forum is not set to force acceptance of the privacy or cookie policies

That last point because while I think we should comply, it's a small deal. The only cookies in use here are for the functioning of the board, there's no tracking, advertising, etc. of any sort. The private data is as much as you've given, which is often very little.

I appreciate your willingness to comply but I'm curious... is this site hosted in the EU? Why attempt to comply with EU laws that otherwise have no power unless you just think it is a good idea?

I'm always interested how people react to GDPR.
