Grrr - 150 spammers this morning, and many of them had multiple links.

I'm changing the settings back again, just to see if this is a coincidence, or if it helps. If anyone needs to enter more links, they can just let me know, and we'll open it up for that post.

Yeah, I don't know if it's a coincidence or what, but the spam count did drop.

L4H - we're going to leave it like this, so just let me know when you want to make some changes. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Just so you understand why, when we open up the control panel each time to check for new posts, the first thing we see are the spam messages. If there are a hundred spammers, often a "real" message gets accidentally deleted because it's easy to overlook. Likewise, in order to keep the board running smoothly, we delete non-participating members (i.e., spammers who have registered). We literally get several hundred per day, so again, it's easy to accidentally delete a real person who registered but hasn't posted.

By keeping the allowed links to a minimum, we keep down the number of spammers, since they're often using bots to register and post. After a few posts that won't go through, they stop trying. Plus, every time they have a successful post, they come back and register under a different name and do it again.

Just as only keyholders can view/post in the 'keyholder' forum, can the ability to post links be made to require a particular group membership which is not automatically assigned to new members?

I was working on that, but it doesn't appear that we can do that with the software/settings. I mean, even as an Admin, I'm still not allowed to enter more than 3 links per post. I'm still hunting for a workaround, but I might be limited because it's the free version of the BBS.

He was a spammer. I just deleted his signature that he went back and modified with spam and banned him.
