MCN Contender hybrid

My latest project that is actually working out well. CB2000 solid base ring that has been fitted to a MCN Contender. Total weight 3.5 ounces with an Abus lock. Doesn't spin or sag and requires no lube under the ring.

Re: MCN Contender with modified Chinese ergonomic base ring

I'm considering customising a A272. It should be easy to lighten up the base ring, but I'm not sure exactly how to modify the cage so its easier to keep clean and also reduce the weight. Maybe a patern of openings similar to a CB3000.

Re: MCN Contender with modified Chinese ergonomic base ring

This base ring has become quite a project, but I believe I'm finally finished. Since getting it back from Mark I've reduced the thickness over 3/4 of the circumference. I left the top untouched for fear of damaging the welded areas. It now has a total weight of about 2.5 oz. This is a drop of about ...

Re: Considering a smaller base ring

I'd have to agree with @cuyahoga . I'm a grower, so getting the right fit was a lot of trial and error. I had started with the CB3000, which had different rings. The 1-3/4 was too small, but the 1-7/8 was just a bit large. Eventually, I made one from stainless steel that was in between. But even th...

MCN Contender with modified Chinese ergonomic base ring

20200214_160008.jpg I love my MCN Contender but could not prevent it from spinning. I've always loved the comfort of these Chinese ergonomic rings and the fact that they stay in place. Mark at MCN cut off the old lock cylinder, filled the alignment pin holes and installed a new attaching lock pin. ...

Re: New Cage question

The A272 is a great starter device! This was the most comfortable device i had tried at the time. Keep the ring lubed with some quality moisturizer like Gold Bond Aloe. Also moisturizing the glands is essential. This helps you when you need to align things to pee. I kept a Q-tip handy for that purpo...

Re: MCN Contender Review

Update: I've been wearing my contender for a couple weeks now. During that time I've had to puchase another slightly larger base ring. Going from a 1 5/8 to a 1 11/16 made a huge difference in comfort. I also had an issue with some ball burn since the beginning. I ended up adjusting the gap from 3/8...

MCN Contender Review

I recently purchased a Contender from Mark at MCN. It arrived super quick and to my exact specifications. The fit and finish of the device is very good. All the pieces were aligned correctly and the welds were perfect. The Contender is much lighter than any of my previous steel devices. I went down ...

MCN Amicus Review

I recently purchased an Amicus from MCN. It should be noted as the website states these devices are semi custom. The base rings are made to order, but the cage portions are premade in China. I believe Mark works his magic on the fit and finish, then marries them up to one of his base rings. MCN to m...
