An Adorable Little Lock

Post by Dev »

As I mentioned in my Jailbird thread, the Masterlock we have doesn't really fit in the hole on the Jailbird. So for the moment, we are using the cheap WolfDog lock we had from before. But of course, I had to start surfing for locks and found this:

which I think is absolutely adorable. Of course, does adorable translate to secure? Does anyone know, are combo locks like this waterproof? Would it do the job that a keyed padlock does? I can reset the combination so Ab would never know what it is but...is the psychological effect of having a key better than a combo lock?

I wonder how big it is. I haven't found any combo locks that are as small as the smallest keyed locks. And I agree, the water proof-ness would be a concern. That said, it looks like it wouldn't be any trouble to cut off (which is easy for me say!).

It looks cheap, to be honest. My Jailbird takes the same 20mm Masterlock that I use with the CB-6000s. You are aware that with the JB, it's the lock that keeps the cage from twisting around the locking pin. And it's not suppose to go all the way around the clasp, to hang down like with the CB. All you need is enough room to click the lock shut, then it stays sideways.

This lock is cute for sure, but doesn't look any more secure than a paperclip.

Okay, this is helpful. We were so excited last night, we weren't really looking at the mechanics.

We did get the Masterlock in (the one that came with the CB-6000s so I assume that it is the same that you have) and with a fair amount of effort, managed to get it locked. But Ab seemed a little worried that there was no give at all so we switched it out for the WolfDog, which really looks cheap, but the shackle is a little thinner and it went in more easily.

I'll look at it again this evening and see if we can switch back to the Masterlock.

Yeah, once you get it locked, it doesn't move other than to flip up or down. Otherwise it's stationary, and needs to be solid enough to resist the pressure to rotate the entire cage. The only problem then is that the bottom of the lock has a pretty square edge to it. I did find that it sometimes rubs against the thigh, or top of the testicle, etc. I'm probably going to look for another rubber-coated lock.

I filed and polished the bottom edges of mine - first with a fine file, then with 400 and 600 grit wet sandpaper. Makes getting poked by it much less annoying, which is important when you like to snuggle.

Ab smoothed off the edges of the WolfDog with a Dremel tool today (yes, while he was wearing it) so that should help the sharp, pokey problem. For the moment, that's what he is wearing. We didn't switch to the Masterlock.

I would stay away from that lock (the cutesy combo) and stick with the tried and true masterlock. Just sand down the edges a little. Mine is tight but will flop forward. I use a tiny zip tie to hold it back and out of the way.

Starting from scratch I would be able to work every combination on the heart lock in about 25 minutes. Then it would essentially be honor system. I will stay with the master lock (wrapped with rubber band to prevent that odd ringing sound).[like I have a choice when she has the key]

After studying the JB and reading this thread, I understand now how the lock is working in securing the device---ie, it is playing the role that the white pegs played on the CB-6000s. So, even though it is an adorable lock, it probably wouldn't be effective in providing the stability that the JB needs. For the time being, it's locked with the Dremel-ed WolfDog.
