Using 31 links in a piece chain to count down the days of locktober. One link removed each night. This would be light duty, non-jewelry chain, or could simply be a paper chain.

Wife says it is my responsibility to remember each night to remove a link. Forgetting extends the duration - don't think that will be a problem.

That would be too easy for us. I suggest one swat of the paddle on your butt for the number of days each day. One swat on day one, two on day two, etc.. That will make you both fear and long for the end of October.
