Ok, but I don't get it - this forum is going well, why make another?
Good question.

It's true that MCF was going well. As it had in it's earlier incarnation, it was frequented by a sensible group of enthusiasts interested in integrating male chastity into their lives. Their real lives. And, just as I did the first time I found MCF, I invested myself in the community there.

But then, the forum owner decided to place skanky pop-up ads talking about "singles in my area" which seemed so tone-deaf to the audience that I realized that whoever it was who's site that is had no idea who we were or what we were doing there. That caused me to realize that this place that I was invested in could, just as before, disappear or be ruined arbitrarily. I decided that not only couldn't I moderate such a forum, I also couldn't really participate. Why bother?

When the MFC first went poof, I looked around at other communities and didn't really find one I liked. That was when I registered chastityforums.com. As I have before, I thought I could start a forum myself. I didn't do it, though, because forums can be a lot of work and I'm not in this for the work. Be that as it may, here we are.

I hope this forum can be everything the MCF was, and more.

I get it. I was actually thinking about doing the same thing. Even looking for domain names that would be appropriate. I have never run a forum but figured it couldn't be too much more difficult that hosting wordpress blogs which I have done many times. I really wasn't interested in taking on another project though so I am glad that you decided to. I am sure you will get the support you need to keep this running.

The admin on the other forum did seem very disinterested right from the beginning and then when he returned it just reinforced that. Better to make the break now while it will be easier to get going again.

Thank you.

OK, now that you explain it, completely makes sense. Having the admin be some faceless person who doesn't seem into this just seems odd. Even the reconstituted, largely abandoned, locknkeep is run by someone into the kink, even if they are, in the immortal words of FZ "Strictly Commercial."

I'm just curious, as many sites along these lines try to meet "expenses" by advertising. So just what _does_ it cost? There's obviously the domain name, if you're installing your own PHP, then it means you have to have your own server, or at least site on the server. Those are usually cheap these days, but I still think about $10/mo or so.

So far, I've spent less than $60. That'll cover things for a whole year, assuming the forum doesn't get wildly popular.

I would send you a message, but that's apparently disabled for me right now. Could you please fix my ability to post to all the forums without being moderated?

For some reason, I can post to this one, not some of the others.

Permissions in phpBB are confusing. I think I have them sorted out now...

Oddly enough, there have been no new postings to the old forum since about 11:30 this morning...

Funny how that works. Put up noxious crap advertising, everyone flees. Thanks for setting up the new one.

It looks like the spammer found his way back though.
